Focus and learning objectives
The Summer School has the goal to provide students, script-writers and producers with an intensive training in cinema/Tv storytelling (workshop 1) and with the opportunity to develop International Cinema projects (as well as TV-Movies and Miniseries) under the guidance of Bobette Buster – one of the most renown teachers of script-writing and development consultants in the USA (workshop 3). A special focus will be dedicated to the writing and development of projects who have a spiritual/religious content (workshop 2). It will be held by authors and consultants of some International Tv projects who have been highly successful in many countries in the world (Francesco Arlanch, Luisa Cotta Ramosino, Armando Fumagalli)

Who can apply
Students, script-writers, directors, story editors and producers.
Maximum participants at the seminar:
Workshop 1: 28 participants.
Workshop 2: 54 participants
Workshop 3: 12 participants
A number between 3 and 6 scripts or treatments will be selected as object of the Workshop 3.
Participants can freely enrol to 1, 2 or 3 Workshops, depending on their interests and skills.
For people who want to enrol only to Workshop 3, it is required to have already a training in screenwriting; if participants do not have a previous training, they should apply also to Workshop 1.
For Workshop 3 two modalities of participation are possible:
a) as authors of treatments/scripts which will be object of evaluation and development during the seminar. The treatment shall be between 20.000 and 30.000 characters and the script no longer than 120 pages in professional format.
b) as non-author participants, who will take part in development activities during the three days of the Workshop.
The treatments/script submitted can be written in Italian or English.
Authors who submit a treatment/script in Italian should be able to provide an English translation before September 10, in case the project is admitted to the seminar.
All seminar activities will be held in English.

Teachers
FRANCESCO ARLANCH
Francesco Arlanch is one of the most successful Italian screenwriters. He has credits as screenwriter or headwriter on around 40 series, miniseries and feature films, many of which have had a great International success. Among them, he has been headwriter (with Viola Rispoli) of the top rating Tv series Doc – Nelle tue mani, and La strada di casa; he has been screenwriter for two seasons of the Tv series Medici. Masters of Florence; he has been the only screenwriter for a good number of Tv miniseries with religious content like Sant’Agostino (Restless Heart), Maria di Nazareth, Paolo VI, Chiara e Francesco, the animation Il cammino di Josemaria, he has been co-writer of the biopics John Paul II (2005), for Rai and CBS, starring Jon Voight, and of Under the Roman Sky (about Pope Pius XII). He has written also many episodes of Don Matteo and Che Dio ci aiuti, for Lux vide and Rai. He has a ph.d. at Università Cattolica and he has published a book on biopics, Vite da film, Angeli, Milano 2008. He is also a lecturer in the Master in International Screenwriting and Production at Università Cattolica.
BOBETTE BUSTER
Bobette Buster is a script consultant and teacher with a long and high profile career in Hollywood; she is now also professor of Digital Storytelling at NorthEastern University in Boston. For many years she has been a lecturer of script-writing at the University of Southern California in the prestigious Peter Stark Producing Program. She has held several courses and seminars both for the American industry (Pixar Animation Studios, Sony Animation Studios, Disney Animaton Studios, Twentieth Century Fox, etc.) and for the best European and Latin-American script-writing programs (La Fémis in Paris, Master in International Screenwriting and Production in Milan, Media Business School in Spain, North by Northwest in Denmark, Sundance Lab for Latin American Writers in Mexico, among others). She has been working as script-writer, production consultant and development consultant for several major production companies and networks (Columbia, HBO, Morgan Creek, and others). She has also worked with famous directors and producers such as Tony Scott, Kevin Costner, Ray Stark, among others. In Italy she has been working as a teacher and a consultant for Lux vide and Cattleya. Bobette's students have worked on successful feature films and hit television series, winning some important industry awards including Academy Awards, Emmys, Cannes Special Jury Prizes and BAFTAS. Her first book Do/Story has had many reprints and has been translated in different languages, including chinese.
She has written and produced a feature film documentary, Making Waves. The Art of Cinematic Sound, which has had its 2019 première both in Tribeca Film Festival and in Cannes Film Festival.
LUISA COTTA RAMOSINO
Luisa is one of the most important screenwriters and creative producers in Italy. In recent years she has been in charge of three big International projects: the three season of Medici. Masters of Florence (Lux vide for Rai - Netflix) the Tv series on Leonardo (Lux vide for Rai – Sony), and the Tv series Devils (Lux vide for Sky). The three of them have had top ratings and have been broadcasted or streamed in more than one hundred countries in the world. As a writer Luisa worked on series like Made in Italy, Tutto può succedere, Distretto di polizia (in this last series she has been headwriter during four seasons). She has written many episodes for Don Matteo and Che Dio ci aiuti; she has also been a contributing writer to Chiamatemi Francesco (feature film on Pope Francis) and one of the writers –with Francesco Arlanch and Lea Tafuri- of Chiara Lubich. L’amore vince tutto (Casanova for RaiUno). She has also obtained a ph.d. at Università Cattolica, where she teaches at the Master in International Screenwriting and Production. She has published a book on the crime Tv series Distretto di polizia, Audino, Roma 2010.
ARMANDO FUMAGALLI
Professor of Semiotics and Director of the Master Program in International Screenwriting and Production (MISP) at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan. In the same University he teaches also at the M.A. in The Art and Industry of Narration: from Literature to Cinema and Tv. He is since 1999 a script-development consultant for the TV company Lux Vide. In this role he has been involved in the development of many Miniseries and TV-Movies for RaiUno and Canale 5 (John Paul II, War and Peace, Maria di Nazareth, Anna Karenina, Medici. Masters of Florence, Leonardo, etc.) some of them being International coproductions (with American Cbs, Netflix, Sony and/or the main European TV networks), and for the feature film Bianca come il latte rossa come il sangue (2013). He has been lecturing in screenwriting for Rai, Mediaset and at the Milan Campus of the Italian Scuola Nazionale di Cinema. He has been lecturing on the same subjects in Universities and Screenwriting courses in Buenos Aires, Los Angeles, Madrid, New York, Pamplona, Santiago del Chile, etc. His most recent books on these topics are Creatività al potere. Da Hollywood alla Pixar, passando per l’Italia, Lindau 2013, translated also in Spanish, an edition of Aristotle’s Poetics for screenwriters (Audino, 2018), and L’adattamento da letteratura a cinema, Audino, 2020. He has been recently editor (with Cassandra Albani and Paolo Braga) of a Storia delle serie Tv, 2 vols., Audino, 2021.

In 5 days’ time selected applicants will receive confirmation of their enrolment (be it as authors or general participants) which shall be completed by September 8, 2021 under payment of the fee.
You will receive by email the link for the fee dedicated to the workshops you have chosen.

The contribution of the Master in International Screenwriting and Production will allow students of the MISP enrolled in 2020-2021 to participate for free. If they want to participate, they should send the application and the project according to the deadlines for every other participant.
