Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, in partnership with Netflix Scholars Program (NSP), will pre-select bachelor’s degree holders from sub-Saharan African countries who intend to enrol in the Master programme in International Screenwriting and Production (MISP) for the 2022-2023 academic year. This program is part of the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity.
Netflix is offering 3 scholarships of the value of EUR 25,000 each to cover expenses related to university tuition and fees, travel, board and housing.
1 - Pre-selection panel and scholarship amounts
a) Acceptance into the ranked list of students competing for the scholarships will be decided by a pre-selection panel nominated by the Master’s programme Directorate and chaired by the Director of the Master’s programme, Prof. Armando Fumagalli. The panel will be made up of the programme Director and two other faculty members from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore.
b) Each scholarship grant will amount to EUR 25,000 and may be subjected to tax charges, if expected by Italian law.
2 - Pre-selection requirements set by Università Cattolica
To take part in the pre-selection process undertaken by Università Cattolica, applicants:
a) must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification;
b) must be residents or citizens of a Sub-Saharan African state.
3 – The University’s pre-selection steps and required documentation
To participate in the pre-selection phase, applications must be submitted as follows.
Applicants must be in possession of all the documentation required from international students applying for the Master programme.
They must indicate in their application that they intend to compete for the scholarship grant.
They must attach a copy of their Sub-Saharan African State passport or proof of residency.
They will also have to submit a declaration of their family’s annual income. Signed self-certification is accepted should an applicant have great difficulty in producing official documentation. In the case of all other criteria being equal, an applicant belonging to a low-income bracket will be given preference.
4 – Application submission timeframe
Applications may be submitted:
From 1 January 2022 to 15 March 2022.
After March 15, if there will be any unallocated scholarships, the applications will be reopened until no later than June 30.
Only complete applications will be taken into consideration.
The administrative management of the scholarship grants is entrusted to Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore’s Masters Office.
The Global Engagement and International Education office will be responsible for providing support for entry procedures to candidates who require a study visa.
6 - Assignment of Scholarships
The Netflix Scholars Program (NSP) will be responsible for the final selection and assignment of the scholarships. It will take place no later than 5 July 2022.
The amount for tuition and university fees (9,800 EUR) will be allocated automatically upon registration.
The first amount (3,000 EUR) for travel and living expenses will be paid to the scholarship recipients no later than 15 July 2022.
The remaining amount (12.200 EUR) will be paid in four instalments from 30 September 2022 to 30 June 2023, according to a predetermined schedule.
These sums could be subjected to tax deduction in compliance with Italian tax legislation.
7 – Conditions for termination
If a scholarship grant recipient’s attendance at the Master programme falls below the minimum required (absence allowed up to 10% of classes, for any reason), if the recipient’s performance falls below reasonably expected levels, or if the recipient does not fulfil student obligations, the University may stop payments of the scholarship grant in agreement with Netflix Scholars Program and direct the remaining amount to other students on the Master programme or similar courses.
